Marseille has always been a breeding ground for the rawest filth and the most honest punk, and Cagnard only confirms it. This five-piece — consisting of Jadouille (vocals), Inès (synths), Briac (guitar), Polo (drums), and Antoine (bass) — released their new, absolutely dark recording to the world in late April 2026. If you’re into a sound where cold synths meet the punch of cold oi!, this is a direct hit.
The recording features four hard-hitting tracks that lead you through a hostile and claustrophobic world; the lyrics are so powerful and dark that I recommend everyone look them up and read them: Soleil Noir: Describes the struggle with inner demons in a chaotic world and the search for truth amidst barbed wire. Perdu: Absolute loss of identity and alienation in the anonymity of the city; the feeling that one is merely a shadow without a past. Les Ombres: A critique of a society that „bleeds us with morality“ and a call for resilience for future generations. Vautour: A dark tale of abuse and subsequent bloody retribution, where the victim becomes the predator.
Lyrically, it is a raw probe into feelings of urban alienation and internal decay. Cagnard work heavily with symbolic imagery like the „black sun“ or the „vulture,“ and the lyrics are saturated with anxiety and social oppression, yet they inject a strong element of defiance and the need to show their rage.
The EP was recorded directly in Marseille at the C.A.L.E space under the supervision of Artem, with mixing by Davide and the final master provided by Gumz of Chainsaw recording. The result is an atmospheric, dirty underground sound, perfectly complemented by the black-and-white cover art. If you want to hear what the contemporary Marseille scene sounds like without any frills, Cagnard is a must.
