From São Paulo, Brazil, Absurdo 77 arrive with their debut EP Crônicas de Sufoco. The band was formed in 2023 and released their first record a few days ago completely DIY. It is now available on streaming platforms and Bandcamp.
The EP features three tracks rooted in punk and Oi! and they certainly aren’t afraid to tackle social issues. The title track “Crônicas de Sufoco” deals with everyday reality, work, poverty and survival, while “Braços Cruzados” directly addresses striking workers, farmers and teachers. The closing track “Sirene das fábricas” paints a picture of life between factory shifts, and its catchy Oi! Oi! chant leaves no doubt about where Absurdo 77 draw their inspiration from.
The entire EP was recorded and mixed during July and August 2026 at Estúdio Ailton Junior. The band also sends thanks to everyone who helped them bring their first recording to life.
Three songs, no filler, a DIY release and a distinctly working-class view of the world. Crônicas de Sufoco is out now, and Absurdo 77 definitely have something to say — and they’re ready to show you their take on Oi! music.
