THE FAMILY BUSINESS LTD release their self-titled debut album

If you’re missing a band that takes classic 2-Tone, adds a serious dose of energy and makes you want to get out of your chair from the very first notes, The Family Business Ltd might be exactly what you’re looking for.

The new project featuring Jordan Cardy from Rat Boy, Preston from The Ordinary Boys and Antonee First Class from The English Beat has just released its self-titled debut album, The Family Business Ltd. The record came out on September 25 via Hellcat Records and features ten tracks sitting somewhere between ska, reggae, 2-Tone and punk.

And the list of names involved doesn’t end there. Tim Armstrong and Jesse Michaels of Operation Ivy also contributed as creative collaborators, with Armstrong producing the album. The rhythm section was handled by musicians from The Calamatix.

The whole album reportedly came together pretty spontaneously. Cardy and Preston reconnected in Los Angeles after several years and started writing together with Armstrong. When Antonee First Class joined them, the album was written and recorded in just two weeks, according to the band.

The first single, “Floor Burner,” gave a pretty clear idea of where The Family Business Ltd are heading – fast tempo, a prominent bass line, a horn section and, above all, plenty of dancefloor energy. The rest of the album follows the same direction.

The Family Business Ltd aren’t trying to reinvent 2-Tone or come up with some kind of revolution. Instead, they take everything that has worked so well in this style for decades – ska rhythms, keyboards, horns and punk drive – and serve it up with a fresh lineup and plenty of energy.

The Family Business Ltd is a ten-track ride that doesn’t waste any time. If you’re into 2-Tone and bands like The Beat and The Specials, this one should be right up your street.
