California’s 21 Gun Salute currently have a new EP out, We’ll Drink to That. The band proudly carries the torch of American Oi! and has long focused on themes of working-class solidarity and rejecting the racist abuse of the skinhead subculture. On their new release, they continue along the lines of classic Oi!, streetpunk, and their own distinctly American approach to the whole thing.
We’ll Drink to That is also a good opportunity to remind ourselves about 21 Gun Salute, as the band are finally heading over to Europe this autumn. They have three shows in Spain, one in the Czech Republic, and four in Germany, including an appearance at the Pogorausch Festival in Dresden.
I still haven’t decided whether I’ll catch them in Dresden at Pogorausch, surrounded by plenty of other great bands, or a day earlier at their show in Prague. One thing is certain – I won’t miss 21 Gun Salute in Europe.
If you like classic American Oi!, definitely give We’ll Drink to That a chance. And if you get the opportunity to see the band live, even better. I have a feeling they are exactly the kind of band that will be great to see on stage.
