Irish hardcore band GOON DHC from Dublin released their For Éire You Will Repent EP back in March, and it has now also received a physical release on 7″ vinyl. The vinyl edition was released by the US label Bad Bite Records.
Even though they had somehow escaped my radar until now, GOON are definitely not newcomers to the hardcore scene. The Dublin band have been around since 2020 and, alongside their debut demo, have released the Streachailt Mo Cathair EP in 2023 and a few other bits and pieces. For Éire You Will Repent is their latest recording and their second EP.
The record contains five songs, clocking in at around ten minutes of raw Dublin hardcore. Existence guests on the opening track, while Imposter appears on the title track.
Musically, GOON deliver exactly what you would expect from a band tagged D-H-C – hard, straightforward hardcore without any unnecessary frills. Basically, a local version of NYHC. The lyrics are highly personal and deeply connected to life in Dublin. The band tackle subjects such as addiction, mental health issues, social exclusion, life on the streets, relationships, and the political situation in Ireland. The title track openly addresses the legacy of British colonialism and current social problems.
