VOLNA: BRAZILIAN PUNK AGAINST THE POWERFUL. TWO NEW RELEASES DROPPED IN OCTOBER

Coming out of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Volna uploaded two new two-track releases to Bandcamp during October. Ivory Towers dropped on October 3, followed by Drone Attack three weeks later. Four tracks in total, packed with punk energy and a seriously pissed-off view of the world.

The first release features “Ivory Towers” and “Narrow Path.” Volna take aim at power structures, the manipulation of fear, restrictions on freedom and constant surveillance. The lyrics deal with a system that wants to dictate what we think, what we’re allowed to say and how we’re supposed to live. The title Ivory Towers refers to the untouchable towers occupied by those who make decisions about other people’s lives, while ordinary people are left to deal with the consequences.

The second release, Drone Attack , features the title track and “Shooting Down.” The title song paints a picture of a drone attack and people trying to defend their homes. “Shooting Down” focuses on hypocrisy, resentment and abandoning your principles in pursuit of popularity or personal gain. Volna aren’t dealing in empty slogans here either – they’re taking direct aim at power, injustice and the forces that divide society.

I couldn’t find much information about the band itself – actually, almost nothing – but these four tracks make it pretty clear where Volna stand. If you’re into punk and hardcore with critical lyrics and a refusal to bow down to authority, check out both releases. You’ll find them on the band’s Bandcamp.
