This is an album I was really looking forward to. I had already been enjoying the singles Nonchalant released ahead of the album, whether it was “Teenage Heart”, “Prettiest Girl in Town”, or later “Ball and Chain”. Each one made me even more convinced that When I Lost My Heart was going to be worth the wait. And now that the full album is finally out, I can say that my expectations have definitely been met. The album was released on September 11, 2026 via Contra Records and Punkrock Boys Records.
Nonchalant from Freiburg play melodic punk rock that brings together ’77 punk, power pop, rock’n’roll and streetpunk. Their music is more sensitive and romantic than that of many bands around them, but it certainly doesn’t lack energy. Big melodies, catchy choruses, and lyrics about love, relationships, growing up, disappointment, and searching for your own identity are exactly what makes Nonchalant so distinctive.
When I Lost My Heart features twelve tracks, and the band takes their trademark sound even further here. From the opening “Prettiest Girl in Town”, through “Teenage Heart”, all the way to the closing “Absence”, this is an album packed with melodies that won’t wear thin after just one listen.
For me, this is exactly one of those albums that was worth looking forward to. When I Lost My Heart is finally here, and Nonchalant definitely didn’t disappoint.
