Sometimes a band gets to you in a way you wouldn’t expect. Morze Martwe from Poland aren’t exactly the kind of band I would normally pay the most attention to at first, but their album Czerwone found its way to me on its own. First, the cover art caught my eye somewhere on the internet – and honestly, it’s a work of art. Then I hit play, and that was it.

Morze Martwe operate in the darker waters of emo-punk, post-punk and hardcore, with a strong atmosphere, a sense of urgency and a very personal energy. This is not background music. There’s tension, anger, helplessness and a strange melancholy running through it, slowly pulling you in. And once I translated the lyrics, it became clear that tracks like “Najlepsi wrogowie” and “Ptaki” are just as intense lyrically as the music itself – dealing with fear, helplessness, alienation, death, love and the struggle we all have with ourselves.

Czerwone was released digitally in March 2026, while the physical versions on LP, CD and MC are due out in September through the Polish labels Peleton Records and D.I.Y Koło Records. The record was recorded in 2025 at Silent Scream Studio in Warsaw, mixed by Alex Adelhardt and mastered by Mariusz Dziurawiec.

That’s how new discoveries happen. You stumble across something by chance, initially don’t feel like giving it too much attention because, well… emo. And a few minutes later, you’ve got another Polish band added to your list of favourites. Morze Martwe are exactly that kind of discovery. If you’re into the current wave of cold Oi! bands, this might be something well worth checking out.
