Liquidator Music has released an incredible gem in the last few days. It’s an album by the legendary Laurel Aitken with music performed by The Mighty Megatons.

The album moves within the styles of reggae, rocksteady, and ska. Laurel’s voice truly shines here, and in my opinion the songs on this record belong among the very best from the catalogue of this singer of Cuban-Jamaican origin.

You might be wondering how it’s possible that an album by a singer who passed away in 2005 can be released with a contemporary band. Liquidator Music managed to recover a number of Aitken’s vocal recordings that had never been released and often didn’t even have any instrumental backing. In collaboration with The Mighty Megatons from Madrid, the label created a project to rescue these recordings, with the band recording new instrumental backing for them.

And these are no amateurs. The Mighty Megatons have experience working with artists such as Alpheus, Roy & Yvonne, George Dekker, Keith & Tex, Carroll Thompson, and Roy Ellis.
