Swiss wild men The Monsters are back with a new album, Off The Road We Go. For me, they’re a new discovery, which is kind of weird considering that this Bern-based band is celebrating 40 years of existence this year, and they clearly have no intention of slowing down. The new record is brutal proof of that.
A mate told me they were kind of rockabilly. Well, I wouldn’t say that’s exactly an accurate description. Their “rockabilly” sounds like it’s been on speed. This is a world built around noisy rock’n’roll, garage punk and dirty boogie that isn’t afraid to dive into the filthiest corners.
Twelve tracks mix trash, rock’n’roll, garage, punk, grunge, boogie and metal. Basically, all the good stuff. At times it gets downright chaotic, at others it’s pure musical ecstasy. The Monsters don’t give a damn about genre rules. They go straight for the throat, with the basic ingredient being roughly 10,000 megatons of energy that pulls no punches and attacks your ears with the force of an atomic explosion triggered by a disaster at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider.
Off The Road We Go is out on Voodoo Rhythm Records and available on vinyl, CD, cassette and digitally. If you’re in the mood for a proper dose of raw, unpolished rock’n’roll chaos, you know where to go.
