Fans of raw punk and dark medieval aesthetics have something to celebrate. The Philadelphia-based formation Poison Ruin has announced their new album titled Hymns From the Hills. The record is set to be released on April 3rd via Relapse Records, and the band has already shared a first taste of it with the single and music video „Eidolon.“
While Poison Ruin’s previous work focused on allegories of oppression, serfdom, and alienation, the new release promises an even darker and more diverse journey. According to the press release, the band is moving away from „tales of toil and dispossession“ toward a „bleaker tapestry populated by spirits and sunless deserts.“ To be honest, that’s a bit of an intense mental image to grasp, but I’ve really enjoyed their work so far and the first single is a total banger, so I’m definitely curious to hear the rest of the tracks.
Musically, we can look forward to their signature mix of aggressive punk and post-punk grit. It reminds me of Killing Joke, but in reality, it’s a very specific and original sound.
The album Hymns From the Hills will be available in several formats. For European fans, distribution is handled by Swampmerch.eu, where you can already pre-order the LP, CD, and cassettes.
