Canadian punks JUG are back with a new record. Their album Head was released in early August via Vancouver-based label Neon Taste Records and features eight tracks that show why this is a band worth keeping an eye on.
JUG operate somewhere between dirty hardcore punk, dark punk and a seriously pissed-off DIY sound. Their music isn’t about going full speed ahead – instead, they rely on heavy riffs, a gloomy atmosphere and a creeping sense of energy. If you like punk that sounds like it was born in some damp basement rehearsal room, JUG definitely shouldn’t pass you by.
Head features eight tracks with a total running time of around seventeen minutes. The record is available digitally as well as on a limited 12″ vinyl pressing, with the first run limited to just 300 copies on white vinyl.
Head is another piece of evidence that the Canadian DIY punk scene is still churning out some seriously interesting stuff. JUG don’t play for speed, and their heavy, pissed-off punk has a character all of its own.
