Istanbul Oi! outfit Cebren RF-34 released their new album VINDICTA digitally on October 30. The eleven-track record is already available online, with a vinyl edition expected in approximately three months.
VINDICTA combines Oi! and streetpunk with lyrics rooted in the everyday realities of working people. The band addresses poverty, unemployment, insecurity, solidarity and politics. The album title is Latin for “revenge”, and its subject matter deals with issues that reach far beyond the streets of Istanbul.
The record also draws on some interesting musical and cultural references. It opens with a punk version of the DEV-GENÇ March, Neye Yarar takes its inspiration from a text by Bertolt Brecht, and the album closes with Solidarity Forever, the workers‘ anthem written by Ralph Chaplin in 1915. One of the tracks also features the voice of Turkish lawyer and activist Selçuk Kozağaçlı.
The physical vinyl release is expected in around three months and will be a joint effort by four labels: Germany’s Smith & Miller Records, Mexico’s Discos Machete, Italy’s Rumagna Sgroza Records and Turkey’s BITE DIY.
VINDICTA delivers eleven tracks of Istanbul Oi!, with a clear social and political perspective running alongside the music.
