The new demo from Woke Up Tied Up, No Sense of Security, just landed on Spotify, and it’s exactly the type of noise you want to hear when the world starts getting on your nerves. Judging by the photos, the band is a relatively young crew, and they deliver a style of dirty, angry, fast hardcore punk that sounds like it was recorded in one breath and on the first take.
Garage-style guitars, urgent vocals, and the whole thing feels like an attempt to escape paranoia, overstimulation, and that strange feeling that the cogs of the system are turning whether you want them to or not. The cover art is a perfect fit: a fist flying out of an old monitor, as if the band is trying to smash their way out of the digital cage.
The entire release feels like a pure scream of frustration, nothing more, nothing less – no pose, just a quick punch to the gut. As long as young people are crushing out honest DIY hardcore like this in basements and garages, smelling of sweat and copier toner, I have no fear for the world. This demo is exactly it. Short, straightforward, honest. And it gives the impression that the band has even bigger noise in store – look forward to it.
