The Spotty Herbert: American Oi! Compilation – an overview of the current American Oi! scene on one LP

I’ve loved compilations since I was a teenager, back then it was basically the only way to listen to a larger number of different bands and then buy entire albums accordingly, even now that music is much more accessible I still enjoy this concept and that’s why I was pleased when the Longshot Music label in collaboration with Try And Stop Me Records revealed that they were preparing a compilation LP called The Spotty Herbert: American Oi! Compilation – and it looks like it will be a great overview of what’s happening in the American Oi! scene right now. The album will be released on November 7th and features 15 tracks from bands that are currently rocking clubs and streets across the States.

The A-side will feature names like Wolves, Spit Your Take, Stand Your Ground, Tarred & Feathered or All The Bastards, while the B-side will offer, among others, Knife’s Edge, Sweet Talker, Violent Way, Rally Cry, Wired Up, Usual Suspects, Poor Impulse Control and The Take. A mix of sharp riffs, street pathos and melodic choruses, which is supposed to show that American Oi! is not just a thing of the past, but also a very lively present. Proven quality and new promises.

The record is released on 12″ LP in three color variants – black, “bone” and red – 250 copies each. The package also includes its own zine The Spotty Herbert with interviews, lyrics and information about all the participating bands. The cover was taken care of by Old School Design, and it is clear from the previews that this will be an honest job from start to finish. Of course, this is not a “definitive” overview of the American Oi! scene, but rather a snapshot – capturing the current period, when Oi! is breathing again and moving forward. If you want to hear what American Oi! sounds like in 2025, Spotty Herbert will be a great start.
