The Enforcers from Canada have already appeared here – back then in a review of their debut album. That one was excellent, and the band continues in the very same spirit. Their second release, or rather a mini-album from this tough Canadian bootboy gang, came out as a joint effort between Try And Stop Me (for Europe) and Longshot (for North America). It features seven brand new original tracks, and once again it’s a total blast.
The Enforcers haven’t lost any of the grit or precision that made their debut stand out. They stick to their trademark style. Oi! or bootboy rock – call it what you like, the label doesn’t really matter. What matters are the short, hard-hitting songs, the two guitars, and the raw power that make The Enforcers one of the very best bands in the skinhead world. When you put this record on, they grab you by the throat and do the same thing Alex and his droogs did to Billy Boy’s gang – they’ll completely tear you apart.
Lyrically, everything revolves around violence, football, street rock’n’roll, and the struggles of the working class, shaped by growing up on the outskirts of big cities. Anyone who’s been through it and had to fight for their place in the crowd, both on the street and at school, knows exactly what it’s about. This is no sentimental or melancholic memory, but a defiant statement about how to take on the world. And I’ll repeat myself – this is what Oi! has always been about, and always will be: either you can put that raw energy into your music, or you can’t. And The Enforcers damn well can.
The absolute standout of the record is song The Element, without doubt the strongest track here. Slightly different from the rest is When The Sword Comes Falling, which is almost a ballad by The Enforcers‘ standards. The booklet includes all the lyrics and a few photos in a nicely designed layout. The first press came in a black sleeve, with oxblood and red vinyl versions. Currently, the second press with a white sleeve is available.
