Fifty years of punk and they’re still not stopping! British mainstays THE DAMNED are letting everyone know they’re still here, having released their new single, “There’s a Ghost in My House,” at the end of October.
This cover, originally by R. Dean Taylor, has been injected with a dose of Gothic Punk and dark charm that you’d be hard-pressed to find in any fancy club. Raw guitar work from Captain Sensible and Dave Vanian on the mic—this is exactly how it should sound when a punk legend decides to record a haunted track.
The single serves as a teaser for the upcoming, highly personal album, „Not Like Everybody Else,“ set for release on January 23, 2026.
The entire record is a tribute and a farewell to the visionary and founding guitarist of The Damned, Brian James, who sadly passed away this year. James penned early punk anthems like „New Rose,“ and the band is paying homage with an album full of covers by artists who influenced him.
And as if that wasn’t enough, founding member and drummer RAT SCABIES is back behind the kit for this album after 40 years! That is news that carries serious weight for every true fan.
So, let’s sum it up: A band that’s been playing punk for 50 years and laid its very foundations, The Damned, featuring Dave Vanian, Captain Sensible, and Rat Scabies, returns to the essence of punk to honor one of their own. And I haven’t even mentioned that the single is accompanied by a video! What more could a punk fan ask for?
I’m looking forward to the rest of the album.
