Usual Suspects z USA už jsme tu zmiňovali. Nejprve jako recenzi na jejich desku Culture Class And Country a poté jsme upozorňovali na jejich nový singl.

Čas se posunul a Usual Suspect vydávají další album. Podle poslechu bych řekl, že všechno do sebe víc a víc zapadá a kapela ještě více zapracovala na svém zvuku. Tohle bude určitě úatřit k těm nejzajímavějším deskám tohoto roku, co v Oi! žánru vyšly.

Usual Suspects from the USA have already been mentioned here — first when we reviewed their album Culture Class and Country, and later when we highlighted their new single.

Time has moved on, and Usual Suspect are releasing another album. From what I’ve heard, everything fits together more and more, and the band has further refined their sound. This will definitely be among the most interesting Oi! records released this year.

OI! parta z USA Usual Suspects zveřejnila nový online singl Nights Outside.

Po první desce Culture Class And Country jde o nový materiál, snad předzvěst nové desky. Kapela pokračuje v těžkotonážním Oi! a řekl bych, že i lehce přitvrdila, takže se můžeme těšit na další vývoj.

The Oi! crew from the USA, Usual Suspects, have released a new online single titled Nights Outside.

Following their debut album Culture Class And Country, this is fresh material—possibly a sign of a new record on the horizon. The band continues with their heavy-hitting Oi! sound, and I’d even say they’ve toughened it up a bit, so we can look forward to seeing how they develop further.

USUAL SUSPECTS – CULTURE CLASS & COUNTRY LP

Usual Suspects jsou skinhead kapela z Los Angeles a Culture Class & Country je jejich debutové LP. Kapelu jsem před poslechem vůbec neznal, a co jsem dohledal, jde o poměrně čerstvou záležitost. Podle fotek ve vloženém insertu jde navíc o smíšenou sestavu, takže v kapele se vyskytují dvě rennees, což vždycky kvituji. Deska vyšla v USA už v roce 2024 na Oi!tism Records, evropskou edici pak o rok později vypustil label Try And Stop Me Records ve spolupráci právě s Oi!tism – a to ve dvou barevných variantách vinylu. Oproti americké verzi má evropské vydání jiný obal, jinak je obsah stejný.

Na první poslech jsem si nebyl úplně jistý, co si o desce myslet. Chvíli mi trvalo se do ní dostat – ale o to víc mě pak chytla. Nakonec se z ní stala nahrávka, která na mém gramofonu tráví víc času, než jsem původně čekal.

Hudebně bych řekl, že je to kombinace dřevního Oi! alá Last Resort nebo Oxblood, ale slyšíš tu i dotek punku 82 a sem tam i chytlavější pasáže. Celkový dojem je ale spíš strohý, syrový – bez zbytečných okras, což platí nejen pro muziku, ale i pro vokál. Celou desku táhne jeden zpěvák, což dává výsledku jednotný a trochu uzavřený charakter. Možná právě kvůli tomu to chce víc poslechů – není to hitparáda na první dobrou, ale spíš nenápadná nahrávka, která ti časem zaleze pod kůži.

Textově se kapela drží klasických skinheadských témat: internetoví pozéři (Online Persona), každodenní boj o přežití (Laugh Now Cry Later, Next Generation), skinheadský životní styl (Gather Up the Boys, Bar Crawl), frustrace v osobním životě (Skinhead Blues, Personal Hell) i přátelství (Friendship Song). Celkově má většina songů dost melancholický nádech.

Pokud tě to na první poslech úplně nechytne, doporučuju to nevzdat. Není to žádná převratná a nafintěná deska na první poslech, ale poctivý i když strohý skinhead sound.

USUAL SUSPECTS – CULTURE CLASS & COUNTRY LP

Usual Suspects are a skinhead band from Los Angeles, and Culture Class & Country is their debut LP. I hadn’t heard of them before this record, and from what I could dig up, it’s a relatively new band. Judging by the photos in the insert, they’ve got a mixed lineup with two renees in the crew – which is always a plus in my book. The album originally came out in the US in 2024 on Oi!tism Records, and a year later got a European pressing through Try And Stop Me Records, in collaboration with Oi!tism. The EU version comes on two vinyl colors and has a different cover than the US press – otherwise, it’s the same.

On the first listen, I wasn’t sure what to make of it. It took me a couple of spins to really get into it – but once it clicked, it stuck. It’s become one of those records that spends more time on my turntable than I expected.

Musically, I’d describe it as a blend of raw, old-school Oi! in the vein of Last Resort or Oxblood, with touches of punk ’82 and the occasional catchy passage. But the overall vibe stays rough and stripped-down – no frills, both in the music and vocals. The whole record is carried by a single singer, which gives it a cohesive but slightly closed-off feel. That’s probably why it takes a few listens to really sink in – it’s not a hit machine on first spin, but a record that slowly gets under your skin.

Lyrically, it sticks to classic skinhead themes: internet posers (Online Persona), daily survival (Laugh Now Cry Later, Next Generation), the skinhead lifestyle (Gather Up the Boys, Bar Crawl), personal frustration (Skinhead Blues, Personal Hell), and friendship (Friendship Song). Most of the songs carry a pretty melancholic tone throughout.

If it doesn’t grab you right away, give it time. This isn’t some polished, radio-friendly singalong – it’s honest, no-frills skinhead sound.
