O grafické zpracování se postaral Krtek z Plzně, což je prakticky záruka kvalitní práce – a ani tentokrát tomu není jinak. Krtek má v Plzni tetovací studio a jeho práci můžu jedině doporučit. Koneckonců, vzhledem k tomu, že se jeho motivy hojně vyskytují i na mém těle a společně s mou pečlivě budovanou maskulinní postavou ze mě každé léto dělají nekorunovaného krále všech koupališť, asi ani jinou možnost nemám. Ehm, pojďme radši k desce, haha.

Důležitý je určitě fakt, že všechny skladby jsou kompletně nazpívané francouzsky, což celé nahrávce dodává ještě silnější atmosféru a osobitý charakter. Francouzština tomu sedí perfektně – dokáže být tvrdá, melodická i dramatická zároveň, a La Gachette z toho těží.

Hned od prvního songu Une vie à défendre (Život k obraně) nastavují La Gachette laťku vysoko. Kapela servíruje epický streetpunk s mohutnými singalongy, ve kterých vypráví příběhy s hlubším podtextem. Úvodní skladba se tematicky točí kolem sebeobětování v boji a už od prvních sekund je jasné, že tohle nebude jen další deska o pivu a páteční kocovině. Dvě kytary ve streetpunku jsou zkrátka nepřekonatlené a La Gachette toho využívají naplno.

Následuje Ca N’Ira Pas (Tohle nepůjde), která si bere na mušku kretény z vlastní scény – přesně ty typy, co ti podají ruku, usmějí se a hned po otočení začnou kout svoje malé špinavé hry. Ano, všichni někoho takového známe. Tahle skladba má navíc naprosto výborný refrén. Freuder (Radostník) pak staví hlavně na krásně propletených kytarových linkách a celé to uzavírá Le Serment (Přísaha). A právě tady přichází jeden z nejsilnějších momentů celé desky. Hodně osobní, vztahové a poeticky podané téma, které výrazně vybočuje z běžných žánrových klišé. Přesně tohle mám rád – když kapela dokáže překročit stín žánru, udělat věci po svém a nechat v hudbě kus sebe. Nepůsobí to strojeně ani prvoplánově, ale lidsky a uvěřitelně.

Na straně B pokračujeme skladbou Boomerang (Bumerang). Tematicky jde o extremismus, tyranii, nenávist a nepochopení, celé zabalené do téměř mýtické atmosféry. Temná píseň, ale hudebně naprosto fantastická. Pro mě osobně jasný favorit celé desky. Historickým tématům se věnuje Louisbourg 1758 (Louisbourg 1758), inspirovaná bitvou mezi Brity a Francouzi během sedmileté války, kdy Francouzi neúspěšně bránili pevnost Louisbourg. La Familia (Rodina) je naopak čistě subkulturní záležitost – přihlášení se ke skinheadské identitě, hrdosti a sounáležitosti. A úplný závěr obstarává Appelle La Police (Zavolej policii), která si s chutí utahuje z punkerů vykřikujících hesla o anarchii a odporu vůči systému, ale ve chvíli, kdy jde do tuhého, mají prst obratně na telefonu.

Podle předchozích nahrávek La Gachette jsem čekal trochu víc punkrockový materiál, ale tahle deska je mnohem víc streetpunková, bojovná a sevřená. Hudebně je to velmi silně zahrané, s hutným zvukem, středními tempy a obrovským důrazem na refrény. Tematicky je album navíc podstatně temnější, než jsem čekal. Rozhodně ale v tom dobrém slova smyslu. Hodně oceňuji hlavně texty a témata, kterým se kapela věnuje. Tohle není žádná pubertální nahrávka o tom, kdo komu vypil moc piva na koncertě a co zažil cestou domů. Je to deska postavená na životních zkušenostech, osobních postojích a příbězích, které mají obsah.

Hudebně to podle mě sedne fanouškům projektů jako Exilli – hutný sound, důraz na emoce a silné refrény. Přesto si ale La Gachette drží vlastní identitu a originální styl vyprávění, díky kterému deska nepůsobí jako kopie čehokoliv jiného.

The artwork was handled by Krtek from Plzeň (Czech Republic), which is basically a guarantee of quality — and once again, he delivers. Krtek runs a tattoo studio in Plzeň and I can only recommend his work. After all, considering that his designs appear all over my body and, together with my carefully crafted masculine physique, turn me into the uncrowned king of every swimming pool each summer, I probably don’t have much choice but to praise him. Anyway… let’s get back to the record, haha.

One important detail is that all the songs are sung entirely in French, which gives the whole album an even stronger atmosphere and a very distinctive character. French fits this style perfectly — it can sound harsh, melodic, and dramatic all at once, and La Gachette take full advantage of that.

Right from the opening track Une vie à défendre (A Life to Defend), La Gachette set the bar high. The band delivers epic streetpunk packed with massive singalongs while telling stories with deeper meaning underneath the surface. The opening song revolves around self-sacrifice in battle, and within seconds it becomes obvious that this won’t be just another record about beer and Friday night hangovers. Two guitars in streetpunk are simply unbeatable, and La Gachette use that weapon to the fullest.

Next comes Ca N’Ira Pas (This Won’t Work), taking aim at the assholes within the scene — you know, the kind of people who shake your hand, smile at you, and immediately start plotting their little dirty games the moment you turn around. Yeah, we all know someone like that. The song also features an absolutely killer chorus. Freuder (The Joyful One) is built mainly around beautifully intertwined guitar melodies, and the first side closes with Le Serment (The Oath). This is where one of the strongest moments of the whole album appears. A deeply personal, relationship-driven, and poetically written song that stands far outside the usual genre clichés. That’s exactly what I love — when a band manages to step beyond the shadow of the genre, do things their own way, and leave a genuine piece of themselves in the music. It doesn’t feel forced or artificial, but human and believable.

Side B continues with Boomerang (Boomerang). Lyrically, it deals with extremism, tyranny, hatred, and misunderstanding, all wrapped in an almost mythical atmosphere. A dark song, but musically absolutely fantastic. Easily my personal favorite on the album. Historical themes appear in Louisbourg 1758 (Louisbourg 1758), inspired by the battle between the British and the French during the Seven Years’ War, when the French unsuccessfully defended the fortress of Louisbourg. La Familia (The Family) shifts back toward subcultural territory — embracing skinhead identity, pride, and brotherhood. The album closes with Appelle La Police (Call the Police), which openly mocks punks screaming slogans about anarchy and resistance against the system, only to have their finger ready on the phone the second things get serious.

Based on previous La Gachette releases, I expected something leaning more toward punk rock, but this album is much more streetpunk-oriented, combative, and tightly structured. Musically, it’s played with real power, featuring a thick sound, mid-tempo pacing, and a huge emphasis on memorable choruses. Thematically, the album is also much darker than I expected — definitely in a good way, though. What I appreciate most are the lyrics and the themes the band focuses on. This isn’t some teenage record about who drank too many beers at a show and what happened on the way home. It’s an album built on life experience, personal convictions, and stories that actually carry weight.

Musically, I think this will appeal to fans of projects like Exilli — heavy sound, emotional delivery, and strong choruses. At the same time, La Gachette still maintain their own identity and a unique storytelling style that keeps the album from sounding like a copy of anything else.

Bullshit Detectör jsou kapela ze San Antonia v Texasu. Tohle LP je složené ze songů, které dříve vyšly na EP No Joy a splitech s Liberty & Justice a Empire Down. K tomu kluci přihodili ještě dva další tracky, z nichž jeden je cover od The Professionals. Celé je to navíc zremasterované a vydané u Contra Records v Evropě a 31 Records v USA. Hudebně se tu bavíme o mixu mezi Oi!, punkem, coldwave a možná i synth popem. Divoká kombinace? To si piš. Tohle ale nemíří na publikum, které potřebuje jen songy s texty „skinhead Oi! Oi! Oi!“ a lít si pivo na hlavu v první řadě. Jasně, občas to všichni potřebujeme, ale tahle kolekce nabízí trochu jiný druh zážitku.

Když to vezmu postupně a pokusím se lehce popsat stylové kotrmelce jednotlivých skladeb, začneme songem You Made Us – temnějším Oi! punkem se skandovanými vokály v duchu fotbalových chorálů. Odsýpající pecka s částečně ambientní atmosférou, která startuje desku opravdu od podlahy. I’m The Hammer pokračuje ve stejném duchu, jen obohaceném melodickými motivy připomínajícími alternativnější kapely. Kytary tu řežou do temnoty, zatímco hromadné vokály zní skoro jako mnišské chorály někde v podzemí. Joy Is Not The Condition Of This World se drží podobného stylu, ale ve chvíli, kdy už si myslíš, že skladba pojede přímočaře, přijde další nečekaná vyhrávka nebo odbočka. S experimentálním ambient zvukem koketuje i song Shinedown, který mě na straně A baví možná úplně nejvíc. Popový feeling se pak naplno projeví v Cool Arrows a právě tenhle track patří k vrcholům celé desky.

Když otočíš desku a rozjede se Hard Luck Boys, jdeš se radši podívat, jestli jsi na gramofon opravdu položil stejnou nahrávku. Tady totiž začíná nefalšovaný synth pop ve stylu osmdesátých let a přichází úplná změna nálady. Rat Tail se inspiruje estetikou 80’s soundu, ale zároveň do něj tlačí energii a naléhavost vokálu, která tomu dodává punkový charakter. Dalším hitem je i Number, který vychází ze stejné poetiky jako předchozí skladba. Možná jde ještě víc do popových aranží a výraznějších kytarových sól, ale zároveň si pořád drží syrovější provedení. Celou kolekci pak uzavírá cover od The Professionals.

Tohle bude bavit všechny, kteří chtějí odklon od žánrových klišé a nebojí se, když kapela uhne mimo zaběhlé mantinely. Zároveň je ale jasné, že se najde spousta žánrových puristů, kteří tuhle desku prostě nepřekousnou. To je ale osud podobných projektů. Za sebe musím říct, že jsem dost překvapený, jak zábavná a fungující nahrávka z toho nakonec vznikla. Před pár lety bych ji možná bez váhání odsoudil, ale tohle období už mám evidentně za sebou. Celou deskou se navíc táhne příjemně temná atmosféra, v níž jednotlivé odklony od základního žánru působí přirozeně a nenuceně. Jsem překvapený, jak dobře to funguje.

Bullshit Detectör are a band from San Antonio, Texas. This LP is made up of songs previously released on the No Joy EP and the splits with Liberty & Justice and Empire Down. On top of that, the band added two extra tracks, one of them being a cover of The Professionals. The whole thing has been remastered and released by Contra Records in Europe and 31Records in the US. Musically, we’re talking about a mix of Oi!, punk, coldwave, and maybe even synth pop. A wild combination? Absolutely. But this record isn’t aimed at people who only want songs shouting “skinhead Oi! Oi! Oi!” while spilling beer over themselves in the front row. Sure, we all need that from time to time, but this collection offers a different kind of experience.

If I go through the tracks one by one and try to describe the stylistic twists and turns on this collection, we start with You Made Us — a darker Oi! punk track with chant-style vocals that feel like football terrace choruses. A driving opener with a partially ambient atmosphere that kicks the record off in strong fashion. I’m The Hammer continues in a similar vein, but with melodic ideas that lean more toward alternative music influences. The guitars cut through the darkness while the gang vocals sound almost like monks chanting somewhere underground. Joy Is Not The Condition Of This World sticks to the same foundation, but just when you think the song is heading into straightforward territory, another unexpected melody or arrangement shift appears. Shinedown flirts with experimental electronic sounds and is probably my favorite track on side A. The pop influence fully comes to the surface on Cool Arrows, which easily stands out as one of the highlights of the entire record.

Once you flip the record over and Hard Luck Boys starts playing, you almost want to check whether you accidentally put on a different LP. Here we get a full-on 1980s-style synth pop track, bringing a complete change of mood. Rat Tail draws heavily from the aesthetics of ’80s music, but injects it with energy and an urgent vocal delivery that keeps the punk spirit alive. Another standout is Number, which builds on a similar approach as the previous track. It leans even further into pop arrangements and prominent guitar leads, while still maintaining a rougher and rawer edge underneath. The collection closes with the The Professionals cover.

This record will appeal to anyone looking for something beyond genre clichés and predictable formulas. At the same time, there will definitely be plenty of purists who simply won’t be able to get into it. But that’s the fate of projects like this. Personally, I’m genuinely surprised by how entertaining and well-crafted this release turned out to be. A few years ago, I probably would have dismissed it immediately, but that phase is clearly behind me now. There’s also a dark atmosphere running throughout the entire record, and all the stylistic detours feel natural rather than forced. It’s surprising how well these elements actually work together.
