Suede Razors – No Mess, No Fuss, Just Rock ‚n‘ Roll 12″

LABEL: Rebellion Records, LSM Records, Longshot Music
YEAR: 2022

This time we’re taking a look at the release from Suede Razors, issued through a joint effort between Rebellion RecordsLSM Records, and Longshot Music. To be honest, I’m not even sure what to call this record. It contains six tracks on a 12-inch vinyl, so is it an EP or more of an LP? In the end, it doesn’t really matter. What matters is that you get six doses of pure rock’n’roll, and damn good rock’n’roll at that.

With the experience the members of Suede Razors have accumulated in previous bands, this project is absolutely stacked with talent. Just look at names such as Harrington Saints, Brigata Vendetta, Sydney Ducks, Ultra Sect, Alternate Action, The Buzzers, The Beltones, Hounds & Harlots, and The Bootboys. And that’s only part of the list. If Suede Razors were an NHL team, there would be no point in organizing a new season. You could simply hand them the Stanley Cup before the opening game and call it a year.

Suede Razors play honest-to-goodness bootboy rock’n’roll, blending strong glam rock influences with punk attitude and streetpunk energy. Their greatest strength is their ability to write catchy songs that make you tap your foot and unconsciously press harder on the gas pedal if you’re listening behind the wheel. The record features six tracks, five of which are original compositions. The exception is I’m A Rebel, a song originally written by George Alexander and first recorded by Accept in 1979. Every track is built around driving glam-inspired rhythms, strong choruses, and Darrel’s unmistakable vocal delivery, which gives the band its distinctive character.

The opening track, Anchors Aweigh, serves as the perfect introduction to the record. It moves at a mid-tempo pace but immediately showcases all the weapons Suede Razors have in their arsenal. It is followed by the upbeat British Singles, a song celebrating a passion for music. It perfectly captures that unique feeling of listening to classic British rock’n’roll tunes while soaking in the carefree atmosphere of California nights. The cover of I’m A Rebel subtly reveals another side of the band’s musical influences and fits seamlessly alongside the original material.

Stand Strong is a more reflective track about people who change their identity with every passing trend and fashionable movement. It is probably the slowest song on the record. Under The Clouds delivers a strong rock’n’roll vibe, and the release reaches its climax with the excellent Vive Le Rock. In these two songs, Suede Razors most openly declare their love for rock’n’roll. And honestly, there isn’t much more to explain. That feeling is impossible to fully describe. You might experience it at thirteen when you first see a Twisted Sister video. At fifteen when your mind is blown by your first great punk band in a smoke-filled club. Or at seventeen when you’re walking a girl home after a show while the echoes of a parking lot fight still ring out behind you. All of that belongs to the same story, and Suede Razors manage to capture exactly those emotions and channel them into their music.

Although the members of the band largely emerged from the streetpunk scene, Suede Razors gives them the opportunity to fully embrace their love of classic rock’n’roll and glam rock. This is evident not only in the music itself but also in the visual presentation of the release, which perfectly complements its sound. Lyrics are included as well. An outstanding record with the potential to transcend subcultural boundaries and appeal even to fans of classic rock.
