Another interesting addition to the punk/Oi! catalog of the Mendeku Diskak label. This time it’s the Turkish band Reason Why and their debut on vinyl – not to be confused with the hardcore project of the same name from Paris. The Turkish scene isn’t particularly familiar to me, so I’m relying on the information provided by the label: the band hails from Istanbul and its members are also active in other projects such as Project Youth, Die In Vain, Oscuridad Eterna, and others.
Musically, this 7-inch will please all fans of British punk from the 1980s. All four tracks clearly stick to that style. The opener One Good Fight features a more aggressive vocal that fits the defiant lyrics and call for revolt. In the second track, Just Don’t Play, the band strongly reminds me of Peter and the Test Tube Babies, especially in the chorus. Side B kicks off with the title track and, in my opinion, the best song, Cut You Loose, driven by a great vocal performance with perfect feeling. The closing track, Contemporary Art, is faster and wraps up the EP with solid energy.
