Poor Impulse Control return with their second release. After the 2024 LP Where Angels Fear To Tread, here comes the Tourist Trap EP, once again released in cooperation with Contra Records and Audio Epidemic Records. Compared to their debut, the band have turned it up a notch – or rather sharpened and pushed further the sound they first laid out on the LP. I wouldn’t call it straight Oi! – it’s more like skinhead/bootboy hardcore at its finest.
The booklet and overall presentation are worth mentioning. The EP comes in a fold-out sleeve, includes all the lyrics, a few photos, and a sticker – all wrapped in classic zine-style aesthetics. The vinyl itself was pressed in both black and blue versions.
Musically, it’s five tracks – five direct hits delivered at a consistently high quality. Stand Tall is a proud declaration of the bootboy lifestyle, No One Walks Alone deals with themes of friendship and solidarity, while Iron And Silver is a battle anthem for nights when frustration boils over and drives you into the streets. On the B-side you’ll find Poor Impulse Control, an ironic self-reflection by the band, and the title track Tourist Trap, which playfully lays out how to deal with the tourist wave in your city.
The whole EP hits hard – musically and lyrically. It offers a balanced mix of irony, humor, and aggression that fits the sound perfectly.
This is a top-notch release, one future generations of collectors will be hunting for. If I were you, I’d grab it while it’s still around. Plus, you can also check out our interview with the band to round out your impression of the music.
