Oi! and synths, PAVEWAY II – New Wave Skinhead

From the desert around Phoenix, Arizona, comes a new group called Paveway II. This band claims to be a “cold oi!” style and in their lyrics they make it clear from the beginning what they are about – respect, loyalty, family and the working class. “It’s not left vs right, it’s the property class vs working class.”

Paveway II recently released their debut EP New Wave Skinhead, which contains four powerful songs – “You Need to Leave”, a cover of “Warriors” by the legendary Blitz, “It Never Rains” (with guest Richard from Bullshit Detector) and “Place”. The sound is raw, without any frills and with a clear reference to classic Oi! as well as New wave – a bit of an odd mix, but all the more energy.

Overall, Paveway II feels like new blood that takes Oi! seriously, but without the old clichés. „New Wave Skinhead“ has just the right hook to grab attention – anthems about cohesion, work and rebellion that sound like they were created somewhere between a desert and a factory floor. If you enjoy the current wave of bands like Bullshit Detector, RANCŒUR or Syndrome 81, definitely give Paveway II a try.
