Today we’re taking a look at the Comply Or Die EP by Pittsburgh Oi! powerhouse No Time. I discovered this band relatively recently, back in 2023 when I came across their LP Suffer No Fool. The band features a dual-guitar lineup and delivers mid-tempo Oi! punk with plenty of drive. From what I’ve seen, most of the members come from hardcore backgrounds, so while the hardcore influence is pushed slightly into the background here, it’s still clearly present throughout No Time’s sound. The EP was released in the US by TKO Records and in Europe by Mendeku Diskak. Neither label really needs an introduction — you’ll already find plenty of positive references to both across our site. The version spinning on my turntable, however, is the Mendeku Diskak pressing. One thing that definitely deserves praise is the artwork. The cover looks fantastic, the labels are beautifully done, and the inner sleeve includes all the lyrics as well. Great work all around.
As for the music itself, I’d describe it as something like The Chisel with a touch of The Templars, or in a wilder combination, The Corps mixed with No Heart. That should give you a pretty good idea of where the wind is blowing. Fans of Oi! / punk, strong melodies, and rock’n’roll-driven moods will definitely find plenty to enjoy here.
The EP kicks off with the defiant Iron Breed. It starts off more restrained before exploding into a relentless bootboy stomp. “We won’t give up, and we’ll keep pissing you off with our presence” — that’s essentially the message of the song for everyone who feels like an outsider. The guitars really let loose on State Execution, a track that attacks state forces just as fiercely as it attacks the listener’s nervous system, forcing your boots and head to move along with the rhythm.
The title track Comply Or Die opens side B with a rock’n’roll-style intro before quickly turning into a high-speed car chase. Thanks in part to the vocals, this track feels like the hardest-hitting song on the record, but also the most focused and consistent in its expression. Safe to say this one won’t be topping the charts at the local police station anytime soon either. The final track, Spirit Of Youth, is my personal favorite on the entire EP. It combines anger, ironic lyrics, and perfect gang choruses. They told us we were at the end of history, but the pendulum swung back and came flying the other way.
Overall, Comply Or Die is a fantastic release. Four songs, zero filler. The kind of EP you immediately want to replay as soon as it ends. No Time are in top form, and this EP captures it.
