The Belgian streetpunk brawlers Midnight Tattoo from Antwerp have been proving since 2010 that honest punk rock, with heart, is not dead and still has something to say. The band, well-known for their sing-along choruses and immediate energy, is releasing a new album, Raise Your Glass. This is their first major record after a long break, I think since 2019, and this time it is being released via Contra Records.
On Raise Your Glass, this trio serves up 11 tracks packed with straightforward Oi!/streetpunk that honors the classic principles: powerful riffs, solid rhythms, choruses you want to sing along to with a beer in your hand from the first minute, and lyrics about the daily struggle, friendship, and the joy of being out with your crew.
The record opens with the title track “Raise Your Glass,” and continues with heavy hitters like “Never Give Up,” “Molly’s Pub,” and “Where We Belong.” The sound is still raw and authentic, yet the album also feels mature, as if the band took the best of their history and mixed it into a solid dose of punk rock energy. A brilliant Oi! record.
