This week, I was intrigued by this new gang from Belgium – The Persekutors. A young band from Merksplas, it seems they only recently started playing shows, but they already have more punk energy than half the bands that have been fiddling the same stuff for 10 years and pretending to be the foundation of punk.
Raw, teenage punk without unnecessary poses, no promo machinery, just guys who shred it out and enjoy it. On Spotify, they currently have their first four tracks, one slightly nervous video on YouTube, and they are playing live in local clubs and small festivals.
This is exactly the new blood that reminds you why it makes sense to go to small gigs and follow the local scene. If you want to hear what punk sounds like when it still smells of the garage and the pure joy of being able to play really loud in front of your friends, give The Persekutors a chance. This band has potential; we’ll see what develops.
