On July 28, 1914, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, sparking the First World War. 111 years later, Belgrade commando Fitz decided to storm into the world of streetpunk with the same ferocity as the battles that erupted back then. Since I don’t know many bands from the Balkans (from Serbia, only Ritam Nereda, and even that just vaguely), I let myself be surprised by what awaited me. Musically, it’s a mix of streetpunk with rock’n’roll influences, built on a strong central melodic line, English vocals, and occasional singalongs. While digging deeper, I found out that the singer is also active in Sikk, which is Bovver Rock’n’Roll. Other members are also involved in different punk projects.

Lyrically, Fitz live up to the reputation of fiery Serbian blood – every song is full of fight. The opening Breakthrough is about storming trenches and combat. The second track, Always Bring a Gun to a Knife Fight, calls for blood and confrontation. The third one, Foot Work, revolves around boxing – once again, about fighting. The fourth, Flowers in the Cracks, has the most poetic theme on the EP, but even here, the motif of battle comes through. The record has excellent sound quality and musically it really works for me.

The artwork chosen for the EP is also top-notch. That kind of design really appeals to me and perfectly matches the overall vibe of the release. The EP was released on Lionheart Records and the booklet includes all the lyrics. I’m satisfied – and Micky Fitz would be too!
