A well-oiled bootboy bovver rock ’n’ roll machine with balls and all the right moves! Clubhouse come from Indonesia with their self-titled EP, serving as a great reminder that the classic soundtrack of rebellious youth knows no borders.
On the other side of the world, people are still playing music rooted deep in punk, Oi! and rock ’n’ roll, and Clubhouse deliver it with plenty of energy. Six tracks bring together defiance, a sense of belonging, weekend escapism and a love of rock ’n’ roll.
Right from the start, “Welcome To The Clubhouse” opens its doors to everyone who feels left out or unwanted. It’s about having your own crew, standing by each other and knowing that even when life is a fucking mess, there’s still a place where you belong. “Keep Moving” and “Scum Of Society” add some social defiance and criticism of a world that’s always trying to put us in a box. Then there’s “Weekend Rule O.K”, reminding us that after a full working week, it’s finally time to switch off, get the mates together and let loose.
This is exactly why I love this kind of music. The places, languages and surroundings may change, but the need to have your own crew, refuse to take shit from anyone and forget about everyday worries and responsibilities over the weekend remains the same. Clubhouse show that bootboy rock ’n’ roll is a universal language, whether you’re listening to it in Europe, the US or Indonesia.
If you want to get your hands on a physical copy of this bootboy rock ’n’ roll, there are several options available.
