BrainDead: Life Like a Nun? More Like a Kick to the Head!

The Belgian pack BrainDead from the city of Turnhout is definitely not asleep. I stumbled upon these punk hooligans through other young Belgian bands, and they are definitely worth the attention—they are quite active. No sooner does one mess settle down than another one comes along—this time in the form of the single „Life Like a Nun,“ which the band released at the end of November. And as is typical for them, it’s short, fast, straightforward, with an immediate kick to the head, no unnecessary filler.

From what I can find, BrainDead is one of the most vibrant names in contemporary Belgian punk. Four guys who’ve been tearing it up since 2021, and in a few years, they have played alongside legends like The Exploited, GBH, Discharge, The Last Resort, UK Subs, Crass, and Peter and the Test Tube Babies – and what’s more important, their own sets have the same intensity, earning them a reputation as a band that gets every party going.

„Life Like a Nun“ immediately showcases everything BrainDead does best: A fast riff that grabs you before you can blink, sharp vocals whose only concern is waking you up, an uncompromising drive that doesn’t slow down for a second.

Thematically, the band isn’t afraid of provocation or a darker atmosphere—the kissing nuns clearly indicate that nothing is untouchable. The single feels like a small rebellious gesture wrapped in two minutes of raw energy. BrainDead continues to smash it: simple ideas, great power, and tons of energy. And if this is a preview of more material, we have something to look forward to in Belgium and beyond. Check them out!
