Badterms – 2000 Tons EP

LABEL: Lionheart Records
YEAR: 2025

Badterms are probably best described on this EP as bovver rock. A rock’n’roll sound, a clear affinity for Oi!, and the unmistakable spirit of 1980s rock — that’s exactly what comes to mind while listening to this record. The EP was released by Lionheart Records in a strictly limited edition: 275 copies on red vinyl and 110 on black, which will definitely please collectors and vinyl enthusiasts alike.

The opening and title track 2000 Tons leans more toward rock’n’roll, with a subtle glam undertone and occasional pub-style gang vocals that add just the right amount of grit and swagger. Surprisingly, for Badterms standards, this track is slightly slower, but it works perfectly thanks to its strong atmosphere and catchy riff. Next comes the faster, more streetpunk-oriented On The Prowl. This one charges ahead at a brisk tempo and is driven by a powerful, singalong-ready chorus. Inspired by Tim Wells’ novel Moonstomp, this track is, for me, the clear standout of the EP.

On the B-side you’ll find Panic Age and CivilizedPanic Age is a solid dancefloor filler, tailor-made to be played loud with a beer in hand. The cover of Civilized by Menace is excellent — and to be honest, I enjoy it more than the original. Badterms have stripped the song down to its core and kicked it up a notch in terms of energy and drive, all while keeping a classic rock feel. I’m usually not a big fan of cover versions, but this one really hits the spot.

It’s clear that Badterms operate firmly on the rock’n’roll and glam-influenced side of the spectrum, so don’t expect any simple or brutally straightforward Oi! stompers here. This is more thoughtful music, marked by a sense of musical maturity. The band knows how to build atmosphere — whether it’s the darker, slightly horror-tinged vibe of On The Prowl or the high-energy punch of tracks like Civilized.

Great rock’n’roll all around, backed up by another strong visual presentation. The artwork this time comes from Malwina of Oldschool Design, whose distinctive style provides the record with a perfect visual identity. Badterms once again deliver a very solid release — a band you can always rely on.
